Step by Step

ATG Tape in Three Steps

Load ATG tape roll
Step 1

Load the Roll

Press the release latch and swing the side plate open. Drop your ATG tape roll onto the supply hub and thread the liner leader over the guide bar and onto the takeup spool. The ATG 700 accepts both 1/2″ and 3/4″ rolls up to 36 yards on a 1″ core. Loading takes under 30 seconds — no tools required.

Apply ATG tape in one pass
Step 2

Apply in One Pass

Press the nose of the gun to your surface, squeeze the trigger, and glide smoothly along the bond line. The adhesive transfers directly to the substrate as the liner winds automatically onto the internal takeup hub. One smooth pass delivers a clean, even adhesive strip — no drag, no gaps, no adhesive on your fingers.

Tear and position
Step 3

Tear & Position

At the end of your run, lift the gun and tear the tape cleanly against the cutter. Position your graphic, banner tab, or panel over the adhesive line and press to bond. No scissors, no separate liner to manage — the liner stays inside the gun the entire time.

Precision Exact placement, narrow nose tip Difficult to keep straight on long runs Hard to control on edges and borders
Finger Contact with Adhesive None — fully enclosed application Frequent — adhesive transfers to fingers Yes — fumes require adequate ventilation

Common Questions

3M™ ATG 700 FAQs

What tapes work with the ATG 700?
The ATG 700 is compatible with any 1/2″ or 3/4″ wide ATG (Adhesive Transfer Tape) rolls up to 36 yards on a 1″ core. Compatible 3M™ tape series include 900, 908, 924, 926, 928, and 969. These are single-coated adhesive transfer tapes where the adhesive is carried on a release liner and transfers cleanly to the substrate during application.
How do you load tape into the ATG 700?
Press the release latch and swing the side plate out. Drop the ATG tape roll onto the supply hub with the adhesive side facing toward the application surface. Pull the liner leader around the guide bar and wrap it onto the takeup hub a few turns by hand. Close the gun and advance a short strip to confirm correct tension. The whole process takes under 30 seconds and requires no tools.
What is the difference between 1/2″ and 3/4″ ATG tape widths?
Both widths load and apply the same way with the ATG 700. The 1/2″ width is used for narrower bond lines — splicing vinyl seams, attaching thin tabs, or tacking small components. The 3/4″ width gives a wider adhesive footprint and is preferred for banner tab application, photo mounting, and anywhere a stronger or broader bond line is needed. The ATG 700 handles both widths without any adjustment.
How do you remove the used liner from the takeup spool?
Open the gun by pressing the release latch and swinging the side plate out. Slide the spent liner spool off the takeup hub and discard the liner roll. The empty spool can be reused as the new takeup core for the next roll, or the liner winds directly onto the hub. No tools required for liner removal or routine maintenance.
What is the difference between the ATG 700 and the ATG 714?
The ATG 700 is the standard hand-held gun designed for 1/2″ and 3/4″ wide ATG tape. The ATG 714 is a similar gun configured for 1″ wide ATG tape rolls. Both use the same trigger-and-glide application method with automatic liner takeup. If your application requires a wider adhesive strip, the ATG 714 may be a better fit — contact our team for guidance on tape width selection.
