Attention

Best Practices

PoleTape with grommets best practices
  • It is important to use a high-quality double sided blockout banner media for making pole pocket banners. Using 13 oz single sided media is NOT compatible with PoleTape or PoleTape PRO for outdoor durability. The reverse side surface is generally not intended for ink or adhesive application.
  • UV Printed banners are NOT recommended for use with PoleTape or PoleTape PRO. UV Ink has a very low surface energy making it minimally receptive of adhesives. For best results combine PoleTape with banners printed with eco-solvent or solvent inks.
  • When making pole banners for outdoor use, often there is a requirement to include grommets for attachment to light poles. For best results, we recommend grommeting through the PoleTape adhesive at both ends to ensure maximum holding power.

FAQ

Common Questions

What is PoleTape used for?
PoleTape is a highly aggressive pure adhesive film for creating pole pocket hems and splicing banner media — without sewing or welding. Apply it along the edge of the banner, fold the pocket over, and you’re done. It’s also used to splice two pieces of banner media together for oversized prints. Available in 1/2″ (20 mil) and 1″ (35 mil) widths plus a Pro V2 version with extended temperature range (0–200°F).
Will PoleTape stick to all banner media?
Most banner media bonds well with PoleTape, but some low-cost media have non-adhesive receptive films on the backside that can reduce bond strength. We recommend testing on a scrap piece of your media before full production. PoleTape is compatible with vinyl, mesh, blockout, and double-sided banner substrates in standard production environments.
What is the difference between PoleTape and PoleTape Pro V2?
Standard PoleTape (POLE0520 and POLE135) is rated for temperatures between 0°F and 140°F — suitable for the vast majority of outdoor installations. PoleTape Pro V2 (POLEPRO-120) is engineered for extreme temperature environments, rated 0°F to 200°F. Choose Pro when banners will be exposed to direct intense heat such as on sun-facing walls or near heating equipment.
Which PoleTape width should I choose?
The 1/2″ (POLE0520) works well for lightweight banners and narrower pole pockets. The 1″ (POLE135) is the most popular choice for standard pole pocket hems on vinyl and mesh banners — the wider footprint provides more bonding area and a more rigid pocket. For extreme temperature environments or added reliability, upgrade to the Pro V2 (POLEPRO-120).
Can PoleTape be used with UV inks?
No — PoleTape is not compatible with UV-cured ink surfaces. UV ink creates a hard, low-energy surface that resists adhesive bonding. If your media has been printed with UV inks, test adhesion before full production or consult with our team about an alternative bonding solution.
