How It Works

Banner Done in Four Steps

Step 1: Apply PowerTabs to corners

Always apply PowerTabs to the corners first — PowerTape must go on over the tabs, not before. Lay the banner face down and press tabs firmly in place.

Step 2: Strip PowerTape along banner edges

Apply PowerTape

Strip PowerTape continuously along the top and bottom edges of the banner’s back side, running from corner to corner over the PowerTabs.

Step 3: Punch holes through tape and tabs

Punch

Use the PowerPunch or EZ-Punch to cut a clean hole through the PowerTape, PowerTab, and banner media in one squeeze. Leave a ¼″ leeway from the tape edge.

Step 4: Hang the banner

Hang

Thread bungee cord, zip tie, or rope through the punched holes and hang. Your banner is ready — in under 3 minutes from start to finish.

Common Questions

What makes PowerTape different from typical double-sided banner hemming tape?
PowerTape is not double-sided. It’s a single-sided tape made with a super-strong film backing that gives you the strength of a folded hem without the hassle of folding. Traditional double-sided tape requires careful folding and pressing, while PowerTape applies flat directly over PowerTabs on the back of your banner — no fold, no sewing machine, no 20-minute process.
Do PowerTabs or PowerTape go on first?
Always apply PowerTabs first, then PowerTape. This order is critical — PowerTape has a silicone release coating on the back that prevents PowerTabs from bonding to it. If you accidentally apply PowerTape first and need to put tabs on top, you can dissolve the silicone coating with nail polish remover to restore adhesion, but it’s best to always do tabs before tape.
Should I run PowerTape on all four sides of the banner?
For most applications, running PowerTape along the top and bottom edges is sufficient. Some customers tape all four sides for extreme outdoor conditions.
Does PowerTape need to run the full width of the banner edge?
Yes — run PowerTape continuously from corner to corner. There is virtually no value to running it only a short distance from the corners. Continuous application distributes wind stress evenly along the full edge, which is what delivers the 98 MPH wind-tested performance. Short sections of tape near the corners only leave the unsupported middle of the edge as the weakest point.
Can PowerTape be used without PowerTabs?
PowerTape can be used alone for indoor banners where moderate strength is acceptable. However, for outdoor use or maximum holding strength, PowerTape and PowerTabs are designed to be used as a system. PowerTape alone provides moderate strength; over PowerTabs, it achieves tremendous strength — the combination is what was wind-tunnel tested to 98 MPH.
What is banner hem tape?
Banner hem tape is an adhesive tape used to finish and reinforce the edge of a vinyl banner in place of a sewn or folded hem. Traditional double-sided hem tape requires folding the edge over and pressing it down. PowerTape is single-sided and applies flat across the back of the banner, giving you the strength of a hem without the fold — and without a sewing machine. (This is banner hem tape for signage, not the iron-on hemming tape used on clothing.)
Can you use hem tape on vinyl banners?
Yes — vinyl banner media is exactly what PowerTape is built for. It bonds to standard vinyl banner stock as well as mesh, and holds up under outdoor exposure and wind. Apply it along the back edge of the banner; no folding is required.
