The purpose-built adhesion promoter for 3M™ VHB™ Max tape. Engineered to amplify bond strength on medium and high surface energy substrates — metals, painted surfaces, plastics, and composites. Apply with a dauber, brush, or swab. Dries in ~5 minutes at room temperature; apply tape within 30 minutes. No GHS08 health hazard classification — safer to use in shop environments.

Step by Step

Permanent Sign Bond in Four Steps

Step 1

Clean Both Surfaces

Wipe both bonding surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) and a lint-free cloth. Remove all dust, oils, and residue. VHB™ Max adhesion depends on a clean surface — this step takes 30 seconds and is the most important one.

Step 2

Apply VHB™ Max Promoter

Apply 3M™ VHB™ Tape Max Promoter to the bonding area using the included dauber, a brush, or a swab. Allow ~5 minutes to dry at room temperature. Apply the VHB™ Max tape within 30 minutes of the promoter drying. This step is recommended on painted surfaces, coated metals, and plastics — and optional on clean, bare aluminum or stainless steel.

Step 3

Apply VHB™ Max Tape

Cut the VHB™ Max tape to length. Peel one liner and press the tape firmly onto the back of your sign — covering the full mounting footprint for even load distribution. For signs over 2 lbs, apply tape in strips with full coverage, not just corner dots.

Step 4

Press & Bond

Peel the remaining liner and press the sign firmly onto the mounting surface. Apply steady pressure for 30 seconds across the full surface. Allow 24 hours before applying any load for a fully cured, permanent hold.
