How to Hang Coroplast Signs

Traditional grommets collapse the hollow flutes of corrugated plastic and pull through under load. Banner Ups PowerTabs offer a faster, stronger alternative with no tools required.

The wide footprint of a PowerTab bridges multiple flutes, distributing load across the sign face instead of concentrating it at a single hole.

Corrugated plastic (Coroplast) is one of the most popular substrates for temporary signage — lightweight, weather-resistant, and cheap to replace. The problem is that its hollow fluted structure makes traditional grommet installation nearly impossible. Grommets compress the flutes, create a weak point, and pull through the moment the sign takes any real load. PowerTabs solve this permanently.

Overview

PowerTabs use a peel-and-stick application — no grommet setter, no drill, no punch required until you choose to add a hanging hole. The wide adhesive footprint covers multiple flutes at once, spreading the hanging load across the sign face and dramatically reducing the chance of pull-through.

Peel & Stick

Peel the liner from a PowerTab and press it firmly onto the corner of the coroplast sign. Position the tab so it overlaps both the face and the edge of the sign — this gives the adhesive more surface area to grip. Apply a tab at each corner. For larger signs (over 3′ wide), add a mid-edge tab on the top edge as well.

Press each tab for at least 10–15 seconds with steady thumb pressure. The adhesive flows into the texture of the corrugated surface during this dwell time, building the bond that will hold under load.

Try the Banner Ups PowerPunch. This punch works great with coroplast. The wide jaw can fit up to 4.5mm thick material. It cuts a clean hole without crumpling the coroplast.

Hanging Options

PowerTab’s loop design accepts a wide range of hanging hardware. Thread zip ties, rope, or wire through the loop for fence or railing installations. For indoor display use, the loop accepts S-hooks, cable ties, and standard display clips. For lawn or post installs, slip the loop over a wire stake or use a cable tie to attach to the post.

Outdoor Strength

PowerTabs use a UV-stabilized film backing and an acrylic adhesive rated for outdoor exposure. They do not soften in heat or lift in rain. For maximum outdoor bond strength, clean the sign surface with isopropyl alcohol before application and allow to dry completely.

If you need to punch a hanging hole through the tab (for rope or rigid hardware), use the PowerPunch tool. Its die is calibrated to cut through materials up to 4.5mm thick — including doubled-over Coroplast — without crushing the flutes around the hole.

FAQ

Will PowerTabs work on foam board?

Yes. Foam board (Gatorboard, Foam Core) bonds well to PowerTabs. Avoid aggressive removal — the adhesive can pull the surface paper from foam core on removal.

Can I use PowerTabs on a fluted side of the Coroplast?

It is best to apply tabs to the flat printed face, not the open fluted edge. Adhesive does not bond reliably to the hollow edge channels.

How do I remove a PowerTab without damaging the sign?

Peel back slowly at a low angle — close to 180° — rather than pulling straight off. This shear-angle peel requires less force and reduces the chance of lifting the print surface. A heat gun on low setting softens the adhesive and makes removal easier.

How many PowerTabs do I need per sign?

Use one tab per corner (4 total) for signs up to 2′ wide. For larger signs, add a tab at the top-center and optionally at each mid-edge point. Over-tabbing is never a problem.
